  • Feed Preparation: The first step involves analyzing the composites to determine their components and boiling points. The feed mixture is preheated closer to its boiling point using a heat exchanger, preparing it for further processing and reducing the energy required in the distillation column.
  • Distillation Column Structure: The preheated feed enters the distillation column, stored in a series of trays or packing materials. The trays allow liquid to flow under pressure while vapor rises through perforations, facilitating contact between vapor and liquid. A reboiler at the bottom provides heat to vaporize more volatile components, while a condenser at the top cools the rising vapors.
  • Separation Mechanism: Lighter components vaporize, while more volatile or heavier components condense and descend. This process involves rising vapor and falling liquid, with fractionation occurring as vapor ascends and liquid descends.
